Requirements & Guidelines

What we're looking for, and what you can do...

We value and cherish individual creativity for this project. It is the lifeblood of our library, and if you want to write something for us, we want it to be as much 'your' piece as possible. But we are collecting these pieces for a higher purpose: Oblivion, and in order for our library to be considered a successful mod, we do ask that you keep the following points in mind when starting a piece for us.

1

Above all other things, every piece of work needs to fit in seamlessly with the Elder Scrolls universe. A good knowledge of TES lore isn't necessary, as many pieces can be fiction, or work around things in some way. The Imperial Library is an invaluable source of knowledge on everything from getting the spelling of words correct, to knowing what the months of the Tamrielian calendar are. If you need any more help, you can always ask people at the Elder Scrolls Forum. Many people there are incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to 'The Lore.' And don't worry if you think that there's still flaws in your work. All of them will be scrutinized for continuity before being turned into books.

2

You can use yourself, or other forum members, in your pieces. It will help put our stamp of individuality on this mod. But be careful. If the member name isn't 'TES' enough, you'll need to alter it in some way to make it fit. Everything in this mod (except for a book detailing who wrote what) will be true to TES. You will also need to gain permission from other forum members if you plan on using them in your piece. And if you plan on showing them in any kind of negative light, they need to have permitted you to do this.

3

Pieces can be of any length, and do not need to be complete works. A particularly juicy 'excerpt' is just as valued as a complete tome. If you intend creating a particularly large piece, please consider that it may need to be split into several volumes. Because we don't know how large we can make books in Oblivion yet, we don't know where such breaks will need to be yet. Simply send in your work as-is, and we can work on splitting it into volumes once we have more information.

4

Be creative! Although stories of adventurers battling great monsters are more than welcome, having the entire library populated with them would be a little... bland. Plays, cookbooks, archaeological reports, logbooks, diaries, poems, textbooks, manuals... As long as they fit into the Elder Scrolls universe, we want them.

5

Don't worry about spelling and grammar. They'll be checked and double-checked both by hand and by machine. If you're intending to write anything in anything other than 'standard English,' you need to state so when you send in the piece. If you're writing from the viewpoint of a Khajiit, or want to try your hand at using Daedric, it's all good. Just make sure that YOU'VE checked it yourself, as we may get it wrong. And if you intend to use any made-up names, make sure they're consistent! If you misspell a name you yourself made up, how are we to know which is the correct spelling?

6

Let me know who you are, and where you are. Along with your story, I'll need to know who to credit the work to. If you are a member on The Official TES Forums, let me know what what your handle is (make sure it's spelt correctly!). If you do not have an account on the TES forums, then let me know both what your handle is, and the forums from which you hail.

7

The pieces submitted for this mod need not be specifically written for this mod. If you have already written a piece that is either set within the TES world, or can be very easily adapted to do so, then we can use it. If it is being used in any other mod, or by a third party website (such as The Imperial Library), make sure that they are OK with it being shared with our mod.
